As part of the 2017 Australian Dressage Championships, the team at Dressage Masterclass is excited to be working with Boneo Park and Saddleworld to bring you a wonderful two-and-a-half-hour master class with British Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Spencer Wilton.

Fresh from his win in the Doha CDI5* Grand Prix Special, Spencer Wilton will be sharing with you, the insights and training techniques that have led to his amazing success at the very top of our sport.

Spencer Wilton was based with Carl Hester MBE for over 10 years and still trains with this incredible master of the sport today.

Our Star

Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The Games of the XXXI Olympiad. Spencer Wilton leads the charge with his mount Supa Nova II, as Great Britain commences its Olympic Dressage campaign. Spencer, making his International Team Championship debut comes home with an Olympic Silver medal with team mates Carl Hester, Charlotte Dujardin and Fiona Bigwood!

Born in 1973 and raised in Suffolk, Spencer spent his formative years as a very successful international junior eventer working in the yards of Lucinda Green and Mark Todd. Spencer then made the switch to dressage basing himself with Carl Hester MBE for over ten years and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. He won his first Dressage National title in 1999 and now has over thirteen National Titles to his name.

With the wonderful support from Saddleworld we will be presenting this master class on the morning of the CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle making for a fantastic day of Dressage.

Furthermore, the 2017 Australian Dressage Championships will give the team at Dressage Masterclass a unique opportunity to source the talent from Australia’s very best combinations.

In order to cater for all audiences and showcase the depth of our sport, Dressage Masterclass will be deliberately selecting a mix of riders from the experienced and known, to those who aren’t yet household names.

Spencer will work with five different horse and rider combinations. The main objective will be to present horses that show the common training issues faced by riders every day. By watching Spencer work through these issues, not only will you benefit from a fantastic educational opportunity, you will also gain insight into the mind of one of the world’s great dressage trainers.

As a further treat for the Australian dressage enthusiast, not only will Spencer conduct the Saddleworld Masterclass, he will also ride a Grand Prix test on the Friday and ride a Grand Prix Freestyle test on the Saturday. With action packed programs for both Friday and Saturday, the 2017 Australian Dressage Championships is an event not to be missed!

The entire production will be hosted by an engaging compere with professional sound design to ensure the delivery of an event of the calibre synonymous to Dressage Masterclass.

Our Stage

The Main Arena will provide the stage for the ticketed Saturday masterclass and CDI-W Grand Prix Freestyle program. The outdoor arena at Boneo will be converted into a 1,500 capacity undercover stadium (audience only), with a 60×20 meter stage the central focus.

Visitors will be seated ringside and enjoy an intimate European style spectator experience as the competition and entertainment unfolds.

With allocated undercover seating, spectators can sit back and enjoy the show with the comfort of knowing they can shop till they drop, prior to the commencement of the show, with no queuing!!

On Friday the place to be is the Main Arena! Friday’s entertainment is going to be action packed and sure to please.

The entertainment begins with a 40 minute “Young Horse Masterclass” presented by Australian International rider, Simone Pearce. Simone is currently based at Helgstrand Dressage in Denmark and has firmly established herself as an international young horse specialist, having competed at Young Horse Championships in Denmark, Germany and Holland. This year, Simone aims to compete at the Bundeschampionate, The World Young Horse Championships, and the Danish Young Horse Championships.

Simone will be sharing her international insights into the preparation and presentation of the young horse for the world stage, with the aim of assisting Australian riders to secure higher Young Horse competition scores in the future!

Following on from the Young Horse Masterclass, we will be unveiling the “Aussies Abroad Challenge”. This brand new event will see a hand-picked cast of special guests, riding a Prix St. George test on catch rides!! With riders miked up throughout the test, this friendly event is shaping up to be tremendous fun for all involved. Stay tuned as we announce the exciting line up over the coming months!

Next on the card in the Main Arena is the CDI-W Grand Prix!! Not only will we get to see which rider will be crowned Australian CDI-W Grand Prix Champion, we will also get to witness silver medalist Spencer Wilton, perform a Grand Prix test on his catch ride!
